Tahltan Band Education Department

The Tahltan Band Education Department supports long-term students and post-secondary students to achieve their education goals through guidance and funding support.

To apply for funding through the band (2014-2015)

  • Step 1:  Contact the band office for a post-secondary package.  Please provide copies of your transcripts, birth certificates of all dependants, your status card, band number, and proof of Canadian residency for the past 12 months.
  • Step 2: Submit completed post-secondary package and all forms to the band office by March 1st every year.

Please note: Tahltan Band does not provide funding for trade school. However, there are Apprenticeship Grants programs available through the federal government. Additional information and opportunities may also be found on British Columbia’s Industry Training Authority (ITA) website.

Post-Secondary Student Support Program

The Post-Secondary Student Support Program objective is to improve the employability of Iskut Band members by providing them with funding to access education and skills development opportunities at the post-secondary level.


  • April 30th: If applying for the fall semester (September)
  • August 30th: If applying for the winter semester (January)
  • December 15th: If applying for the spring semester (May)
  • February 28th: if applying for the summer semester (June)

Applicants are highly encouraged to apply at their earliest convenience. You do not have to wait for the deadline.

2016 Geoscience BC ScholarshipTahltan-Central-Government-TCG-Scholarships-2

Geoscience BC is pleased to announce that up to ten scholarships of $5000.00 CAD each will be awarded in November 2016. Students who have registered and started in a Masters (MSc) or Doctorate (PhD) program in earth science or geoscience and working on a British Columbia-based mineral, oil and gas, coal or geothermal exploration and/or development thesis topic are eligible and encouraged to apply.

The scholarships will be awarded to students based on their project’s technical merit, the ability of the project to attract investment to BC, the student’s interest in exploration and development and his or her academic qualifications.

Masters students may receive the Geoscience BC scholarship only once during their program. Successful PhD students may apply for a second year of scholarship funding ($5000.00 CAD) provided they can demonstrate that they have made significant progress in their studies.

The application deadline is Nov 17, 2016.

A previous Tahltan grad launched an exciting business career this way.
Commencing in June 2017, AltaGas is offering a two-year development program. We are currently seeking a Business Analyst to be placed in a new graduate development and extended orientation program that will accelerate your hands-on exposure to various areas of AltaGas’ business. This program will provide an intensive and challenging work experience that will help prepare you for future, more challenging roles within AltaGas.
As a Business Analyst in this new graduate development program, you can expect a variety of assignments and projects, continuous learning, training and mentoring. Over the course of four consecutive 6-month terms, you will rotate through four business areas of AltaGas. At the end of each term you will work with your counterparts in other business areas to transition on to a new rotation assignment. Upon completion of all four rotations after two years, you will be placed on a more permanent basis. Your final job could be in Calgary, Vancouver, or in northern British Columbia closer to home.
You do not have to have status or be a member of the Tahltan band. All you have to have is Tahltan ancestry. Deadline for application is Feb 1st, 2017.

GCMC/Tahltan Nation Bursary

The Galore Creek Mining Corporation offers bursary awards for the Tahltan members pursuing post-secondary education. This bursary is provided every year. Keep an eye on our website if you want to apply next year.Deadline for application is October 5th, 2016.
