The Tahltan Leadership Council has been actively monitoring the COVID-19 pandemic. Our priority interest is to prevent the spread of the virus to Tahltan Territory. As the holiday season has arrived, the health and wellbeing of Tahltan members remains our top priority. We must keep our Nation safe.
The Tahltan Nation has been following strict preventive measures to protect our communities from COVID-19. This remains true during the holidays. To continue to keep each other safe – all Tahltan’s must stay the course.
During this holiday season, the Tahltan Leadership Council asks Tahltan’s to adhere to the following guidelines:
- For members residing outside of Territory, please do not come into Territory during the holiday season. Due to the increase in COVID-19 cases particularly in Terrace, Smithers, and surrounding areas this is a critical step to keep everyone especially Elders and those with compromised immune systems safe.
- For those in Territory, essential travel only.
- Physical Distancing: Do not gather in groups. Ensure you stay a minimum of 6 feet away from others who are not members of your immediate family household.
Tahltan Territory’s remote location makes this region of British Columbia amongst the most vulnerable in Canada. With limited healthcare facilities and large number of Elders, COVID-19 is a grave threat that the Tahltan Nation takes extremely seriously. We must continue to be steadfast and follow our policies during these unprecedented times to keep our members and communities safe.
The Tahltan Leadership Council would like to wish you and your families a joyful holiday season and a healthy, happy, and successful 2021. We work for you, we are here for you and we are all determined to see our Tahltan Nation succeed and thrive, now and always.
