New Employee Announcement
Announcing TCG’s new Director of Wildlife – Westin Creyke

Westin Creyke
Director of Wildlife
My name is Westin Creyke, I’m the son of Troy and Dayle Creyke, and belong to the Tsesk’iye clan. I’m excited to be joining TCG as the Director of the Wildlife Department and I’m looking forward to spending more time back home in the territory. I’ve always had a passion for wildlife and our territory and have been working to turn that passion in to a career.
I’m nearing the end of an MSc in biology at the University of Northern British Columbia. My research uses a mixed methods approach by employing both health measurements and local knowledge to assess the influence of human disturbance on debēhe in Tahltan territory. Over the course of my education, I was fortunate to spend time talking with knowledge holders and doing fieldwork on multiple mountains within our territory, observing debēhe and collecting samples.
Changes in the political and environmental climates are affecting our wildlife in new ways. With no one right answer for conservation concerns, I hope to bring a blend of Tahltan and western scientific knowledge to wildlife management within our territory with the goal of ensuring long-term healthy wildlife populations.
Westin begins working with TCG today, December 8th. You can reach him at wildlifedirector@tahltan.org. Previously, he worked for TCG as Guardians Coordinator and interim Wildlife Director.
Thank you to Brianna Tashoots for stewarding the department as interim Director of Wildlife over the past six months. She continues in her role as wildlife coordinator and can be reached at: wildlifecoordinator@Tahltan.org.
