Fisheries Friday # 5 – Antsy to go

We’re nearing the end of the smolt outmigration. The staff at camp on the Lower Stikine are packing their bags and sweeping their rooms after two months of catching and tagging smolts. Along with the early Chinook, they’re coming up the Stikine, eager to be home. A few technicians will hang back and keep marking Chinook down at Kakwan point. At Tahltan Lake, a couple of busy days and nights have resulted in 600,000 smolts outmigrating. The second half is yet to come.

June 11th we’re planning a Salmon Welcoming Ceremony at Tahltan, stay tuned for more info.

For those interested in work opportunities with the Fisheries Department, learning more about our field projects, or simply talking about Stikine fish, feel free to find Ian and Cheri.
