Notice of Snares Up Klappan

Over the next month, the TCG Wildlife Dept and Guardians will be out snaring and collaring grizzly bears on the Klappan Grade, Klappan River, and Stikine River. We will be placing GPS video collars on the bears as a way to collect information on their predation and movements in the Klappan/Spatsizi area.

The bears will be snared, immobilized, collared and then released. We will not be near the Iskut community and will be working from McEwen, Eaglenest, and Little Klappan stretches of grade, with the snares well away from the grade.

The Guardians will have trapping tape up along with signs, noting the location of a snare. Please be respectful of our hard work. Do not go into any trapping area or discharge a snared bear. We will have cameras up, and bait in many areas. We will share the trapsite locations once they are determined to let people know to avoid.

We will provide updates as the work progresses to keep you and the communities informed.

Any questions or concerns reach out to Brianna Tashoots, Interim Wildlife Director.
