Yesterday we flew and mapped the perimeter of the prescribed fire units (PFUs) with prescribed fire experts from BCWS.
- The burns achieved the desired effect of consuming high elevation shrubs to make room for more forage species for sheep.
- PFUs 2 and 5 showed no visible signs of heat. Slow backing fire remained in PFUs 7, 5, and 3.
- PFUs 1 and 6 were not ignited this year because the conditions were not receptive.
- It’s currently raining over the contingency burn area (which includes all PFUs) and the rain is expected to continue in to tomorrow.
- We will monitor with infrared drone next week to check for any remaining heat after the wet weather passes.
- The photos are PFU 4 during ignition, and the following day before being rained on.
